Abstract: In the years immediately following the second World War, Europe divided into two economic, social and political systems. Romania is placed under the Soviet Union’s area of influence, and by its side it participates to the vast economical and political confrontation between the two systems. Starting with 1949, the publications in our country are being enslaved by the party propaganda, the authoritarian (communist) model shading its influence over the freedom of speech, broken by the iron hand of the political leadership. The Romanian press drastically narrows the area of manifestation and propagandistically radicals itself. The author presents some of the „campaigns” of this short period, in which the „themes” of the communism’s superiority over the capitalism, of the proletarian internationalism over the idea of a nation or of the social realism over the decadent cosmopolitism take the nonsensical shapes of the class struggle. All these are illustrative for the entire press, training numerous artists, of all specialisations, from the ones representing party press („The Spark”, „The Free Romania”), to the cultural press („The Romanian Life”, „The Contemporary”), educational press („The Education Gazette”) and even humoristic press („The Nettle”).
