Abstract: Micro-registers of memory and history, concentrated forms of communication through visual and textual simultaneity, the illustrated postcards were put into circulation during the Belle Époque period (1871-1914). The “consumption of images” (Susan Sontag) developed and the “mechanical reproduction” (Walter Benjamin) accelerated, accompanying the process of modernization of society. The reference space of this article is Sinaia (Prahova County, Romania), a small rural mountain territory that became a city from 1880 and was quickly organized as the royal summer residence during the reign of Carol I Hohenzollern. I followed the selection of landscape representative snapshots, the „parcellations” operated on the territorial frame, in the association between technique and aesthetics, succinct personal narratives and events, ideas, perceptions preserved in writing on the postcards, as an attestation through image and text of modernity in miniature.
