Abstract: This interview, hitherto unknown in Romania, with the critic Eugen Simion was published under the title Еуђен Симион: Европски исток и запад – диалога није замро (translated by us: Eugen Simion – Eastern and Western Europe: the Dialogue did not Stop), in „Pechat” magazine, no. 395, 13.11.2015, pp. 50-53. We publish it for its documentary value. To our knowledge, the answers of the academician Eugen Simion have not been preserved in their original version, that is, in Romanian. In the pages of „R.I.T.L.” we offer, thanks to Marija Nanadić, a „translation of the translation” – a practice not recommended, but sometimes impossible to avoid. We would also like to thank Ms. Nataša Jovanović, the journalist who conducted the interview, and the Editor-in-Chief of „Pechat”, Ms. Ljiljana Bogdanović, for the kindness of offering this interview to the Romanian readers. Some answers have a contextual relevance, referring to the political and institutional state of affairs in Romania almost 10 years ago. Others have a more general character, illustrative of the interviewee’s intellectual choices and personality.
