Its trace was completely lost afterwards and it attracted attention only once, in a marginal way. Our research has led to the identification of the original – a Russian introductory book for the students of the Saint Petersburg academic gymnasium – and to a plausible proposal for its anonymous author: the Prussian astronomer Christian Nicolaus von Winsheim (1694-1751), who was teaching after the famous schoolbook of Johann Hübner. We are also proposing the most probable author of the translation: the schoolmaster Radu Duma (174?-1791) from Brașov. Its final sections discuss the image of India as described…

Pann – was noted by the romanist Émile Picot, who acquired a copy in Romania in 1885, which has since entered the collections of the BNF). Both texts explore war trauma experienced by underage subjects (Georgescu’s protagonist Milo is an orphan barely surviving in a devastated unnamed land, while Klimov’s hero, Flyora, is a Belarusian adolescent eager to join the Word War II partisans). This apparent lack of method is actually the result of mastery in methodological synthesis and the effect of an inspired positive eclecticism. The critic has happily combined or joined together methods and perspectives, with admirable results, he has constantly shown concern to identify and choose, for each particular case of the development of his critical approach — that is, for each critical text, for each work or group of works or section of…

A task that he accomplished in numerous writings – we list only a few such as Romanian Writers of Today, Critical Fragments – and in the encyclopaedic enterprise of the General Dictionary of Romanian Literature as well as in the creation of the admirable collection Fundamental Works, which is the Romanian equivalent of the Pleiades Library, without forgetting the integral publication of all the manuscripts of Eminescu. The series of these forms opens with the poetry of the ruins, an imported form, which justifies the mobilization of our romantic poets on a journey to the ruins; and includes several other examples, such as the Montagnard legend (related to the holidays in Bucegi of V.A. Urechiă’s family), the miniature (suggested by the year spent in the C.T.C. sanatorium at Tekirghiol by M. Blecher, together with the painter Lucia Dem. The first would be a warm poetry, which achieves its impact by producing “movement” in the reader/ audience based on the high-temperature feelings it expresses; the other works the other way around, emoting by diminishing the “incandescence” and by “cooling” the feelings/ emotions walked through the “retorts” of the intellect (E.
