The letters he writes to his sisters are all in French. He shares with them his experience as a student in Lunéville and Berlin, between 1834 and 1838, and he thanks them for the concern and the care they show for his well-being. Besides the letters, Andrei Nestorescu publishes as well a list containing the names Kogălniceanu refers to and an explanatory dictionary for all the words used by Kogălniceanu (regionalisms and archaisms).

Il est né le 2 novembre 1916 lorsque, depuis deux mois, la Roumanie avait quitté sa neutralité. Le 28 novembre, sa mère meurt, mais le nourrisson survit. Il devient en 1928 Nina Arhip 30 324 élève dans un lycée et il se prépare à défendre les frontières de son pays. Mais c’est ici qu’il commence à écrire et à rêver de devenir écrivain. En 1936 il quitte la carrière militaire et suivit les « Lettres » en pleine expansion légionnaire (1936–1941). En juin 1941 il part à la guerre, il est blessé deux mois après et, pendant une année, il reste a Bucarest et prépare l’apparition de son premier volume de prose (« Le Paradis Étrange », avril 1942). Ensuite il doit retourner aux armes. Mais, après quelques mois, il devient prisonnier à Cotul Donului, en novembre…

Calinescu’s university career, about his election as academician and his moving to the Institute of Literary History and Folklore of Bucharest. Pavel Ţugui reveals that Calinescu biography is still controversial, but he brings into the light documets that no one would contradict. Calinescu seems to have faced many difficulties to become professor at the University of Iasi. After one year, in 1945, he moved to the University of Bucharest. In 1949, he was sent away by the communist authorities, although he still was on the paylist of the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy, until 1952. In 1950 he was appointed director of the Institute of Literary History and Folklore of Bucharest, becoming employee of the Romanian Academy.
